Tour Plan
Embark on a scenic drive to Kibale National Park, which takes approximately 8 hours. You will arrive in the afternoon, with a stopover in Kasese town for lunch before continuing your journey to Kibale. Upon arrival, you will check in at the Chimpanzee Guest House, one of the best hotels in the area. The guest house features self-contained cottages and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding tea plantations. This will be your base for the upcoming chimpanzee tracking adventure.
In the morning, embark on a guided walk in Bigodi Swamp to spot various bird species, such as the Shining Blue Kingfisher, Blue Throated Roller, and other rare birds. Keep an eye out for fruiting trees, which attract birds like the Narina Trogon, Pied Hornbill, Hairy-Breasted Barbet, and Yellow-Billed Barbet. After lunch, drive to Amabere ga Nyinamwiru and hike up to the crater lakes viewpoint, where you'll be treated to stunning views and amazing waterfalls. Spend the night at the Chimpanzee Guest House.
After breakfast, head to the ranger station in Kibale National Park at 8:00 AM for your chimpanzee trekking adventure. These delightful apes, more closely related to humans than any other living creature, are an absolute joy to watch as they squabble and play in the fruiting trees. The incredibly diverse forest is home to over 13 species of primates, including red colobus monkeys, the rare L'Hoest's monkey, blue monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, pottos, black-faced vervet monkeys, baboons, and bushbabies.
A network of shady forest trails provides much to delight botanists and butterfly enthusiasts. Birdwatchers will also be thrilled with 335 species recorded, including the endemic Prigogine's ground thrush. The elusive forest elephant, smaller and hairier than its savannah counterpart, moves seasonally into the developed part of the park. Other terrestrial mammals include buffalo, giant forest hogs, and several antelope species.
After this incredible experience, we will drive back to Bwindi/Rubuguri, arriving in the late afternoon.
