Safari Overview

Start on the open plains of Lake Mburo, spotting zebra and impala before a boat cruise brings you close to hippos and fish eagles along the shoreline. From here, the road climbs into Uganda’s misty southwest, leading to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to nearly half the world’s mountain gorillas.

Trek through the forest for a face-to-face encounter with a gorilla family, then spend the afternoon with the Batwa, learning how they once lived among these very trees. By evening, settle in at Lake Bunyonyi, one of Africa’s most scenic lakes, ringed by terraced hills and small islands. Wake to a quiet canoe glide across the water before heading back to Kampala five days of savannah, forest, and lake in one easy route.

Day 01 :

Kampala – Lake Mburo National Park

Depart Kampala in the morning and drive southwest, crossing the equator en route. Arrive at Lake Mburo in time for an afternoon game drive across its open acacia plains, keeping an eye out for zebra, impala, eland, and buffalo.

Day 02 :

Lake Mburo National Park

Start with a boat cruise on Lake Mburo, drifting past hippos, crocodiles, and a wide variety of waterbirds along the shore. In the afternoon, take an optional horseback safari a rare chance to ride alongside zebra and antelope in Uganda's only park offering this experience.

Day 03 :

Lake Mburo – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

A full day's drive through the rolling Kigezi highlands brings you to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest by evening. Settle into your lodge and rest ahead of tomorrow's trek.

Day 04 :

Gorilla Trekking & Batwa Cultural Experience – Lake Bunyonyi

Head into the forest for gorilla trekking and spend a magical hour with a mountain gorilla family in their natural habitat. In the afternoon, visit a Batwa community to learn about their traditions and history as the forest's original inhabitants. In the evening, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi and check into your lakeside accommodation.

Day 05 :

Lake Bunyonyi – Kampala

Enjoy a peaceful morning canoe trip across Lake Bunyonyi, gliding past terraced hillsides and small islands. Afterward, begin the drive back to Kampala, arriving in the afternoon/evening for departure or onward travel.
