Tour Plan
You will be met at the airport by your tour guide and transferred to your accommodation in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, you may have an opportunity to relax and get ready for the adventure ahead.
After breakfast, enjoy a full-day game drive with a packed lunch. The reserve is renowned for its black-maned lions, abundant wildlife, and rare opportunity to spot the Big Five, even on a morning drive. Many cheetahs are remarkably relaxed, often resting in the shade beneath vehicles or climbing onto roofs for a better view of prey. Birdlife is equally impressive, with nearly 500 recorded species, including 16 eagles, numerous hawks and falcons, 6 vultures, 8 storks, 4 bustards —among them the kori bustard—and 9 sunbird species.
After breakfast, you will drive into the cooler Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The Ngorongoro Crater appears like a hidden world, enclosed by steep volcanic walls and filled with savannah, acacia woodland, lakes, and swamps. Formed two to three million years ago after a massive volcanic collapse, it spans 260 sq km. Renowned for its geology and dense wildlife, the Crater hosts large populations of mammals. Once you descend, you’ll encounter wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, over 500 bird species, and have an excellent chance of spotting the endangered black rhino.
The Serengeti is truly spectacular, famed for its vast open grasslands that offer exceptional wildlife viewing. Its climate and vegetation have remained largely unchanged for millions of years. While rich in wildlife, it is best known for the annual Great Migration, where huge herds of wildebeest, zebras, and antelopes move in search of fresh grazing. The migration occurs yearround, depending on location. You’ll also have a good chance of spotting predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards. It’s a truly life-changing experience. In the afternoon, you will begin your journey back to Karatu, enjoying more scenery along the way.
After breakfast, you’ll drive 120km west of Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park, a small yet diverse reserve set beneath the Great Rift Escarpment. Its shallow salt lake expands and recedes seasonally, attracting flamingos and over 500 bird species. In the forest, look out for baboons, elephants, and the famous tree-climbing lions. Enjoy a picnic lunch before continuing your game drive. Afterwards, you’ll bid farewell to your guide and be dropped off at your preferred location, such as Arusha or the airport.
